Sister Mary Kalis, age 93, died on September 14, 2008, at St. Francis Convent, Little Falls, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Francis Convent on Friday, September 19, at 11 a.m. Friends may call at St. Francis Convent on Thursday, September 18, from 4 - 8 p.m. and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral on September 19. A wake service will be held at the Convent at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 18. Arrangements are by the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service.

Sister Mary Kalis was born March 25, 1915, near Elmdale, Minnesota. She was the tenth and last child of Joseph and Julia (Stodolka) Kalis. She was accepted as a Franciscan Sister of Little Falls, Minnesota, on August 12, 1933. She made first profession of vows on August 12, 1935, and final vows on August 12, 1938. She was a Franciscan Sister for 75 years.

Sister Mary ministered in health care. She served in Little Falls, Sauk Centre, Breckenridge, Alexandria and Onamia, Minn.; Dodgeville and Cudahy, Wis.

Sister Mary was preceded in death by siblings: Anton, Rose Koshenina, Peter, Roman, Gertrude Casey, Martha Brown, Elizabeth, Frank, Robert and Alex. Survivors include: nephews and nieces, especially Sister Latona Kalis, and her Franciscan Community.
