Nine applicants became Franciscan Associates at Mass on Sunday, October 13, and several more renewed their 5-, 10-, 15-, 20- and 25-year commitments with the Franciscan Sisters and Associates of Little Falls.
In the ceremony, held in Sacred Heart Chapel at St. Francis Convent, these individuals commit to consciously incorporate Franciscan values in their daily lives. They commit to “be sister and brother to all of God’s people and creatures and make the world a more loving, just and peaceful community” as they carry the spirit of Saints Francis and Clare into the world.
The Franciscan Associates—administrative assistants, farmers, hospital chaplains, medical professional, teachers, college students, office managers, retired, married, and single —live their commitment in their work and homes. Their reasons for committing to the Franciscan relationship is as individual as each of them are:
“…I can’t tell you the countless number of people that have been drawn to me, to teach and guide me, since I began the Associate relationship….”
“…The Franciscans felt like they were a part of me….”
“(I wish to) simplify my life physically, mentally, emotionally and to spiritually grow…becoming Gospel in my vocation as woman, wife, mother, grandmother in a faith community and in the world.”
The celebration culminated with a festive dinner for the Franciscan Sisters, new Associates, those celebrating anniversaries and other Associates and friends.
